Johann Heinrich Schmelzer (1623-1680) - Sonata de Nativitate
Edited by Friedemann Immer
Published by Spaeth Schmid
Schmelzer's Sonata de Nativitate à 8, here published for the first time, is one of the few works by Schmelzer which has survived outside of Kremsier. A complete hand written set of parts with the shelf hard RM 4925 is preserved in the music department of the library of the Warsaw University. The piece was performed at the St. Anna Church in Warsaw at Christmas 1682 (two years after Schemlzer's death.)
The original instrumentation is for 2 trumpets, 2 violins, 3 viola, and continuo. Friedemann Immer also edited the piece for 2 trumpets and organ.
